Mississippi teachers indicted for buying Adderall, Lortab from 16-year-old student

Two Mississippi teachers were indicted last week for allegedly buying prescription medications from a high school student.

Water Valley teachers Alana Harris and Jill Todd were arrested Monday on charges of enticing a minor to commit a felony. The 16-year-old Water Valley high school student involved in the case has not been charged, said assistant district attorney Steven Jubera.

“In these cases, it was to sell, barter or transfer a controlled substance,” Jubera told The Oxford Eagle. “Teachers have massive power over students. A teacher is in a position of authority and nothing in the student’s past or record that indicates the student was a drug dealer before this incident.”

The controlled substances included prescription medicines, namely Lortab and Adderall.

Though Water Valley superintendent Michael McInnis hasn’t yet responded regarding whether the teachers are still employed, Jubera said the school has “taken the appropriate steps to ensure the safety of the students.”

This is a developing story and will be updated on OxfordEagle.com.
