North Mississippi law enforcement officers captured a man in Panola County Tuesday that they believe shot and killed his wife on Valentine’s Day in Jackson.
Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby told WMCA TV that Marcell Martin, 41, was captured in Panola County after he led police on a chase and ran into the woods in Sardis.
Southaven Police spotted the suspect and began pursuing him at approximately 3:30 a.m. The suspect wrecked his car and fled on foot into a wooded area off River Road.
After hiding into the woods, Martin took off and ran in Interstate 55 until officers could apprehend him.
Martin was sought in connection to the Valentine’s Day murder of his wife, 48-year-old Varga McCray.
McCray was shot multiple times inside a Jackson residence. When Jackson Police responded to the call, they found McCray inside the house with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
