One man is dead after a shooting at an apartment complex on Blossom Lane in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said Malcolm Robertson, 28, was shot multiple times after he was caught in an apartment at the Oak Ridge Apartments, 904 Blossom Lane.

He said no charges have been filed and the case will be referred to a Warren County grand jury.

Robertson was taken to Merit Health River Region, where he was pronounced dead by doctors in the hospital emergency room about 9:10 a.m., Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said. His body was sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Pace said deputies received a call about 8 a.m. about a shooting at the apartment complex.

According to sheriff’s office reports, a resident of the apartment, who shared it with his mother and sister, came home from work Monday about 8 a.m. and found the apartment’s rear door ajar.

About that time, the resident was confronted by Robertson who had a gun, and a fight ensued.

At some point during the fight, the man managed to take the gun from Robertson and shot him several times.

Further investigation indicated the man’s sister at one time had a relationship with Robertson and had a restraining order against him that expired April 8.

Investigators believe Robertson broke into the apartment, but do not know the motive for him going to the apartment. The mother and sister were not at home Monday.
