State and local law enforcement officers are searching for an inmate who escaped Thursday by walking off a job site in the Mississippi Delta.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections reported that Walter Lewis, 31, escaped Thursday afternoon.

Lewis was assigned to the Quitman County Work Center.

Lewis was convicted of conspiracy to commit a crime and malicious mischief in 2010 in Lee County.
