A Mississippi inmate awaiting trial in the slaying of his mother is now charged with attacking three jailers with a homemade knife.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says charges of aggravated assault on an officer have been brought against 37-year-old Antonio Gladney. He says Gladney pulled out a crude knife during a cell inspection Saturday and cut one jail officer, then headbutted and kicked two others before being subdued.
News outlets report the sheriff said all three officers were treated for minor injuries and returned to work.
Gladney was jailed while he awaits trial on murder charges in the slaying of his mother, 66-year-old Molly Gladney, on Mother’s Day in 2017.
It was not immediately known whether Gladney had an attorney to represent him in the jail attack.
