A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder after police say he shot and killed a 16-year-old girl at a birthday party.

Curtis Lathan was arrested by Columbus police, the Commercial Dispatch newspaper reports, for killing Arykah Price White at a birthday party held at a city park last Saturday night.

Police say the shooting happened after a fight started at the party and Lathan allegedly fired into a crowd of people outside a building at the park.
