The suspect connected to a Monday morning home invasion and shooting has turned himself in to authorities.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said Monday evening that Dale Armstrong, 40, of Pearl, surrendered to authorities at the Brandon Police Department around 6 p.m. He has been charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling and aggravated assault.

Shortly before 7 a.m. Monday, deputies with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 200 block of West Drive, where they found a 49-year-old adult male with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Pace said the victim was conscious and talking when deputies arrived. The victim was later transported by ambulance to the parking lot at South Park Elementary School, where he was then taken by Air Care to a Jackson hospital. His condition is unknown.

During the course of the investigation, Pace said witnesses saw a newer model Kia SUV leaving the scene. Throughout the day, investigators worked with several agencies, Pace said, to locate Armstrong.

Pace said evidence has shown that Armstrong reportedly forced entry into the victim’s home, where he shot the victim.

“At no time were residents in the area in any immediate danger,” Pace said. “We believe this was a targeted incident, with the victim and the suspect having a history.”

Pace said the investigation is ongoing and the charges could be amended or added to.

Armstrong was being transported to the Warren County Jail Monday evening, where he will be held without bond until his initial court appearance is held. Pace said that initial appearance would be set later by the court.
