Two Mississippi State University football players and another person were injured Tuesday night in a car wreck south of Starkville.
Starkville area media reported the crash occurred just after 6 p.m. Tuesday when a car collided with a tractor-trailer.
The University identified the players at De’Monte Russell and J.P. Purvis. A third person in the vehicle was not affiliated with the university.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol identified the third person injured as Xavier Taylor.
“De’Monte was treated and released,” a university spokesman said in a written news release. “J.P. is resting comfortably in the hospital.”
“The university is grateful to first responders for the assistance provided to our students.”
Reportedly Taylor was in critical condition at a Tupelo hospital.
