The Latest: Mississippi’s coronavirus cases, deaths keep rising, 7-day average bumps up again

Mississippi’s COVID-19 coronavirus new cases and death count statistics continued to rise as the state reported its latest number Thursday morning.
Mississippi’s death toll rose by 22 deaths, Thursday, bringing the total deaths to 396. The state reported five of those deaths actually occurred days prior but were delayed in reporting.
The number of new cases reported was 262. That brings the total number of cases to 8,686 cases.
The seven-day average number of new cases stood at 266 per day after Thursday’s update.
The state reported that 169 deaths were of residents of long-term care facilities or nearly 43 percent of all deaths in the state.
