The Latest: New coronavirus case trend hits another new record

Mississippi’s number of new daily cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus rose higher for the fifth-straight day Thursday as the 7-day daily average of new cases hit a new record.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported an additional 328 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours bringing the total cases to 14,372.
The state announced Thursday morning 23 new deaths were attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 693.
Mississippi’s 7-day average of new cases increased to 307 per day, an all-time high.
The 14-day average of daily new cases decreased slightly to 278 cases per day with Thursday’s updated statistics.
The state reported that 352 deaths were of residents of long-term care facilities or approximately 51 percent of all deaths in the state.
