An 18-wheeler truck crashed early Tuesday over a bridge, backing up traffic and killing the driver, authorities said.
The truck went over the side of the Pascagoula River bridge on Interstate 10 in Jackson County, Mississippi at approximately 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, lancing partially submerged in the water below the bridge.
Authorities confirmed they had located the driver of the truck, who investigators believe may have been trying to avoid another collision when it careened off the bridge. Divers were working to recover the driver’s body.
A passenger sleeping in the truck’s cab survived the crash and suffered only minor injuries, authorities said.
