Last two weeks marked Mississippi record in new coronavirus cases

Mississippi’s two-week daily average of new COVID-19 coronavirus cases rose to another new high Tuesday as the state reported the latest statistics.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported an additional 341 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours bringing the total cases to 18,109.
The state announced Tuesday 10 new deaths were attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 847. State health officials said 1 of the deaths reported Tuesday actually May 16, but the reporting was delayed.
Over the last 14 days, Mississippi reported 4,378 new cases or approximately 24 percent of all known cases since March occurred in the last two weeks.
Mississippi’s 7-day average of new cases rose to 298 per day. The record high of the 7-day average of new cases is 328 and was set exactly one week ago on June 1.
The 14-day average of daily new cases rose Tuesday to 313 cases per day, a new high.
Mississippi’s death toll from coronavirus includes 440 people from long-term care facilities or 52 percent of the total deaths.
