Mississippi’s coronavirus ‘curve’ just shot up, here’s where the cases are growing

On Thursday, the Mississippi State Health Department released the latest statistics for the COVID-19 coronavirus which showed the state had more than 1,000 cases in the last 24 hours, a new record.
So where exactly were those new cases located? Here’s a graphic showing the case totals from yesterday’s data and compares it to today’s date to show the number of new cases per county and the percentage of total case growth in a single day.
On the whole, the state’s total cases increased by approximately 5% in the last 24 hours.
Also of note, tiny Issaquena County in the Lower Mississippi Delta recorded its first case — two separate cases — in the last 24 hours. Its small population had been free of positive coronavirus tests until yesterday. The county has approximately 1,300 residents.
