Mississippi police arrested a man and charged him with cruelty to animals after witnesses said the man threw a dog over a highway overpass.

Southaven Police said Merterrious Johnson was charged after multiple witnesses called police, WREG-TV reported.

The incident occurred at approximately 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Goodman Road and Interstate 55 overpass. The dog was rescued from the interstate and was reportedly being treated at the Southaven Animal Shelter.
