Wayne County officials are on a manhunt after two inmates escaped from the Wayne County Jail in Waynesboro Thursday.
Wayne County deputies are searching for Jonathan Kane Brown and Billy Takota Hinton who are believed to have escaped the jail after they assaulted a jailer with a pipe at approximately midnight.
Clarke County Sheriff Todd Kemp told local news sources that the two inmates were being held on burglary charges from Wayne County. After assaulting the jailer, the inmates threw the jailer in a jail cell and were able to escape.
Because one of the inmates has connections to Greene County, officials believe the inmates may be headed south
Kemp and his deputies from the Clarke County Sheriff’s Department are assisting in finding the two inmates to bring them back into custody.
