From a European-style Christmas village to trees dripping with glitter and glitz, one Mississippi town has been turning heads and making headlines this holiday.
According to recent articles from Home and Graden Television and Garden and Gun Magazine, Natchez may be the place to be this year for holiday cheer. The small town may not have snow, but it evidently has much to enjoy during the holidays according to the two recent articles.
HGTV recently posted a list of their “favorite small towns to visit for Christmas” on its website. The folks at HGTV chose one town from each state to highlight on their list of towns that deliver “major holiday spirit.” Natchez was selected for the state of Mississippi.
The small town on the Mississippi River in the southwest corner of the state kicks off the Christmas season with the lighting of the town’s signature tree, which stands in the middle of the street. In the article, HGTV highlights many Natchez events that make the Christmas season special, including caroling in the park and a European-style Christmas village created in partnership with riverboat tour company, American Queen Voyages.
Other towns in the south that made the HGTV list include Fairhope, Alabama, Natchitoches, Louisiana, Hot Springs, Arkansas and Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Garden and Gun magazine also selected Natchez in a recent article highlighting eight weird and wonderful holiday events in the South.
At the top of its list is the Jeweled Christmas Tours at The Towers, one of Natchez’s many historic mansions that are open for tours.
“Its storied halls are decked with costume jewelry, luxurious ribbons, and dazzling jeweled ornaments, resulting in an extravagantly sparkly display. The outside of the mansion shines brightly with Christmas lights, providing a glittering experience from entry to exit.”
Other unique experiences that made the Garden and Gun list include Sandi the Christmas Tree in West Palm Beach, Florida, and the Opossum Drop in Tallapoosa, Georgia.
