A Georgia newspaper reported Thursday that a city there has committed significant upgrades to a ballpark in hopes of drawing a minor league team. The same newspaper, along with Yahoo Sports, reported there are several possible teams, but the Mississippi Braves in Pearl may be their home run.
An article in the Ledger-Enquirer in Columbus, Georgia, confirmed city leaders voters unanimously to explore raising $50 million in bonds for upgrades to their ballpark.
There was a two-hour closed-door meeting in Columbus Thursday where, as the Ledger-Enquirer reported, city leaders discussed partnering with a management company for a team. Yahoo Sports reported earlier this year that team is likely to be the Mississippi Braves.
The article also reported that the city hopes to have the park upgrades ready in time for the 2025 season opener.
