An investigation of a missing person case Thursday officers led officers to the discovery of a body inside a large wooden container inside a Mississippi home.
The container, described as a “makeshift box” by Gulfport Police, was so large a part of the house’s exterior wall had to be cut away to get the container out of the building.
The Biloxi Sun-Herald reports that police say the wooden box was about 6 feet long, 3 feet wide and 2 feet deep and looked like a wall locker with double doors. The box was reportedly lying flat “like a coffin” when authorities found it, and the body was covered in “junk” and “all kinds of stuff,” including clothing.
Gulfport Police Department officials report that officers were initially called to investigate a missing person on 16th Avenue and 22nd Street, but are now investigating the case as a “suspicious death.”
Officials said they did not dig too deep into the box and have few details about the body, including whether the person inside was male or female.
One person is being questioned about the incident at this time.
