As parts of northern Mississippi are still trying to thaw out from last week’s wintry weather, any signs of ice should be gone quickly as the entire state stays in the 60s Wednesday and Wednesday night. Despite the taste of springtime, it’s not going to be a great time to spend outdoors as the entire state has a risk of flooding while some communities will have a risk for severe storms.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, a Level 1 covers the southern half of the state with a curved line stretching into central Mississippi. Communities include Yazoo City, Philadelphia, Meridian, Jackson, Vicksburg, Natchez, Brookhaven, Prentiss, McComb, Columbia, Magee, Collins, Laurel, Hattiesburg, and Picayune.
The biggest risks in this zone are isolated severe storms, hail, and damaging winds.
The entire state has the risk of torrential rainfall at any time Wednesday or Wednesday night. We could have localized flash flooding for now, then river flooding becomes a possibility in a day or two.
