A short police pursuit led to a vehicle crash and standoff at Crosstown in Tupelo Wednesday night.
Tupelo officers attempted to stop a red GM Blazer for a traffic violation. The vehicle did not stop and began fleeing from police.
After a short pursuit, the Blazer crashed into a vehicle near Crosstown and stopped on South Gloster Street near Carnation Street. While officers were trying to arrest the adult male driver, he threatened to harm himself with a knife and firearm he had in his vehicle.
Additional support was called including Tupelo Police Crisis Intervention Team officers and negotiators. After nearly two hours, negotiators were able to convince the male to surrender peacefully with no injuries to anyone involved in the incident. He was taken into custody and transported to the NMMC for evaluation.
