A Mississippi police officer has been fired after reportedly bullying an arrestee into licking his urine off of the floor.
Pearl Police Officer Michael Christian Green was fired shortly after the incident, reportedly on Dec. 23, 2023.
On Wednesday, the United States Attorney’s Office unsealed the criminal information against Green.
“To be clear, this incident is beyond deplorable to city officials. Michael Green does not represent the values and standards within the Pearl Police Department. The charged actions have both embarrassed and dishonored the faithful officers who serve and protect our city every day,” Pearl officials said in a statement.
The city has engaged Attorney Candace Gregory, a former federal prosecutor and Director of Mississippi’s Public Integrity Division, to review the police department’s policies and procedures and provide training assistance.
Green has been charged with one federal count of deprivation of rights under color of law.
According to court documents, Green bullied a suspect into licking his urine off of the floor after the suspect peed in a holding cell while waiting to be booked.
