Northwest Mississippi Community College’s Heindl Center for the Performing Arts is bringing “Annie” the touring production to the Senatobia stage on March 26 at 7:30 p.m.

The beloved classic story is about Annie, fellow orphans, and their mean caretaker, Miss Hannigan. Annie believes she was mistakenly left behind by her parents and believes she’s saved by Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks. The musical is based on the comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” by Harold Gray which premiered in 1924 and was even earlier inspired by an 1885 poem of the same name by James Whitcomb Riley.

The musical was adapted in 1977 by Charles Strouse, Martin Charnin, and Tomas Meehan. The musical’s story follows Annie during the Great Depression of the 1930s in New York City. Ever hopeful and cheerful, the characters in Annie are bright and colorful bringing one back to childhood imagination, wonder, and hope. With iconic lines that anyone would recognize, you’ll have no doubt the hope it can make you feel when you hear the “sun will come out tomorrow.”

Since “Annie’s” first run on Broadway, it has been seen in theatres across America and has been performed by touring groups, high schools, community theatres, and more.
