A Brookhaven man has been charged with aggravated DUI in connection with a multi-vehicle wreck on Interstate 55 recently.
On Wednesday, April 10, at approximately 5:16 p.m., Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M officers responded to a three-vehicle crash on I-55 at Bogue Chitto exit 30 in Lincoln County.
According to Cpl. Craig James, the three vehicles — a 2007 Nissan Altima, a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, and a 2022 Freightliner tractor/trailer — were all traveling south when the Altima collided with the Silverado and then the tractor/trailer.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, 51-year-old J. Cruz Dominguez-Vazqu of Mexico, suffered serious injuries in the crash. The family traveling in the Silverado were not injured.
The driver of the Altima, 22-year-old Samuel Ryan Hickman of Brookhaven, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence. Hickman, of Jay Wood Lane, was also charged with false statement of identity, no seatbelt, no auto insurance, careless driving, and driving in more than one lane.
Emergency crews worked at the scene until after midnight, with traffic blocked in both lanes initially, then with one lane open for traffic.
The crash remains under investigation by MHP.
