Mississippi man charged with girlfriend’s murder after body found in yard by passerby

A Mississippi man has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend after her body was found in the yard of an abandoned house.
WTVA in Tupelo reports that Columbus police have arrested Damian Peterson, charging him with the murder of Ashanti Jade Turner, 25.
Turner’s body was discovered by a passerby in the yard of an abandoned Columbus house on Industrial Street.
Peterson surrendered to police on Wednesday on unrelated assault charges. He was later charged with murder after a preliminary investigation.
Authorities have yet to announce an official cause of death.
