Mississippi residents should be aware of a rise in reports about a jury duty scam.

The Oxford Police Department issued a warning after receiving numerous calls from concerned citizens.

OPD officials say scammers contact potential victims and tell them that a warrant is out for their arrest because they have missed jury duty.

The scammer then tells the person on the phone that a payment is required to avoid arrest.

Police department officials say that the court would never reach out and request payment over the phone and to report such scams to the department.
