One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting at a Mississippi apartment complex.

Officials with the Flowood Police Department report that officers received a call regarding a suspicious suspect attempting to break into apartments near Park Circle Drive.

When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered the suspect, who reportedly fled. When officers attempted to chase down the suspect, the suspect then reportedly presented a weapon to the officers.

Officers discharged their weapons, fatally striking the subject, according to a news release from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

Te suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Preston Banks.

The involved officers did not receive any serious physical injury. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
