Mississippi assistant police chief charged with domestic violence

A Mississippi police officer was arrested this week, charged with domestic violence.

Tunica County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called on May 31 to Cedar Drive in Tunica by a woman who said she had been assaulted.

After investigating the matter, a warrant for the arrest of Walter French, 40, was issued Thursday.

French, who works as the assistant police chief in Coldwater, Mississippi, turned himself in to authorities. He was charged with domestic violence. He was released on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to appear in court on June 20. Coldwater police officials said French was on administrative leave until the charges are settled in court.
