A former Mississippi police officer was sentenced to a year in federal prison after pleading guilty to depriving an arrestee of his civil rights by forcing the arrestee to lick urine from the floor of a holding cell.

Michael Christian Green, 26, a former Pearl police officer, was sentenced Wednesday to 12 months in federal prison for “acting under color of law to deprive a person of his civil rights.”

Green was fired shortly after the incident, reportedly on Dec. 23, 2023.

According to court documents, Green was on duty when he bullied an arrestee into licking his urine off of the floor after the arrestee peed in a holding cell while waiting to be booked.

Green pleaded guilty to the offense on March 14.

In March, Pearl officials responded after court documents about the case were unsealed.

“To be clear, this incident is beyond deplorable to city officials. Michael Green does not represent the values and standards within the Pearl Police Department. The charged actions have both embarrassed and dishonored the faithful officers who serve and protect our city every day,” Pearl officials said in the statement.
