A popular Mississippi catfish restaurant voluntarily closed its doors after receiving a failing health inspection.
On Tuesday, June 18, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) issued a “C” rating the renowned Cock of the Walk restaurant in Ridgeland, citing several serious violations.
A series of viral videos and images reportedly from the restaurant have been circulating on social media.
MSDH inspectors reported discovering rodent droppings in the dry storage areas and employees standing in wastewater in the kitchen. Additionally, food containers were found without lids, and food contact surfaces throughout the restaurant were neither cleaned nor sanitized.
Greg Flynn, a spokesman for MSDH, noted that the last documented infestation at Cock of the Walk occurred in January 2012, when the restaurant faced issues with cockroaches.
The owner of Cock of the Walk has been given a 10-day period to address and rectify the health violations identified during the inspection. The restaurant’s management has opted to close temporarily to ensure all necessary corrections are made and to uphold health and safety standards for their patrons.
