Officials hope the public can help identify a man whose body was found near a Mississippi overpass without identification or a wallet.

The Jackson County Coroner’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man whose body was found on Highway 90 near the 63 overpass in Pascagoula on April 14.

Despite extensive efforts, the coroner, Bruce Lynd, has been unable to determine the identity of the deceased, referred to as ‘John Doe.’ The man is described as an African American male, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing 190 pounds, with brown eyes and partially gray and black hair. He is believed to have been in his late 40s to 60s.

When discovered, ‘John Doe’ was wearing a black T-shirt and dark gray or black cargo pants. He had no identification or wallet on him, with only a set of keys found in his pocket. Among these keys was a U.S. Post Office key, which has been traced through local post offices and with the help of a postmaster, but no leads have been found. Efforts to identify the man through state and federal fingerprint databases have also been unsuccessful, leaving investigators with minimal information about his background or origin.

Lynd emphasized the urgency of identifying the man, highlighting the importance of providing a dignified final resting place for him. He expressed concern that, without identification, the man might be buried as an unclaimed indigent. Lynd stated that every person deserves to be buried or cremated with dignity and that reuniting the man’s remains with his family is a top priority for the coroner’s office.

The Jackson County Coroner’s Office is urging anyone with information that might help identify ‘John Doe’ to come forward. Those with potential information are encouraged to contact the office directly at 228-769-3197. Additionally, tips can be submitted anonymously through MSCoastCrimeStoppers.com.
