One person was killed in a wreck on the Mississippi interstate Monday afternoon.

Officials say 63-year-old Sammy Townes was killed in a crash on Interstate 55 north of Oakland Monday afternoon.

WTVA in Tueplo reports that officials with the Yalobusha County Coroner’s Office were called to the scene shortly after 4 p.m.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol reports that a 2010 Cadillac left the roadway and rolled several times. Townes was a passenger in the Cadillac. The driver was reportedly uninjured in the wreck.

The MHP said the crash is under investigation, and the driver was released at the scene.
