Mother, son arrested after allegedly stealing iron pilings from Mississippi bridge

A mother and her son were arrested for allegedly stealing iron pilings that were going to be used for repairs of a Mississippi bridge.

The Picayune Police Department reports on social media that on July 24, 2024, Norfolk Southern Railroad reported the theft of iron pilings intended for bridge repairs within the City of Picayune.

Swift actions from Picayune Police officers and detectives led to the identification and arrest of two suspects within 24 hours.

Wyatt Ethan Mitchell and Carla Lee Mitchell, a mother-son duo, were apprehended and charged with grand larceny. They are currently held at the Pearl River County Jail.

Authorities have indicated that additional individuals were involved in the theft and are actively working to identify and locate these suspects.

“Our city will not tolerate this kind of nonsense,” stated a spokesperson for the Picayune Police Department. “We urge those involved to come forward, or we will come to find you soon.”
