70-year-old Mississippi man arrested on cocaine trafficking charge in Florida

A 70-year-old Mississippi man was arrested for cocaine trafficking and possession of drug equipment in Florida.

The arrest occurred during a traffic stop conducted by a deputy from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office (SRCSO) on July 10. Johnson was driving a 2021 Chevy Malibu registered in Mississippi when he was pulled over for a traffic violation.

Deputies reported that Johnson had traveled from Mississippi to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and was on his way back when the stop occurred. During the traffic stop, deputies developed reasonable suspicion that Johnson was involved in criminal activity.

Upon consenting to a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered a vacuum-sealed package containing just under half a pound of cocaine. Johnson was subsequently arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine and possession of drug equipment.
