An exit ramp on Interstate 55 will be closed for up to 60 days, and Mississippi drivers are being asked to be alert, allow for additional driving time and be prepared to take an alternate route.

Officials with the Mississippi Department of Transportation will close the I-55 southbound exit ramp to Nissan Parkway in Madison County at 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 12.

The exit ramp will be closed to allow crews to work on a bridge preservation project.

The exit ramp is expected to remain closed for up to 60 days, with a tentative reopen date set for Oct. 11.

Signs will be in place to alert southbound drivers of the closure and detour, which will direct traffic to exit at Sowell Road and take I-55 north back to Nissan Parkway.

Drivers are advised to slow down, allow additional travel time during the closure period and pay attention to posted detour signage.
