Mississippi man arrested after fleeing with money snatched from behind the counter of convenience store

A Mississippi man was arrested after he went behind the counter of a Mississippi convenience store, snatched a bunch of money and fled.

At approximately 9:37 PM on August 6, 2024, the Oxford Police Department received a 911 call reporting a robbery at Rascals on Belk Blvd. The caller stated that a male suspect had come behind the counter and taken money before fleeing the store. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Responding swiftly, OPD officers arrived at the scene and established a perimeter around the surrounding area. Their quick and coordinated efforts led to the apprehension of the suspect shortly after the incident.

The suspect, identified as Armando Nicholas Sanchez, 36, of Taylor, MS, was taken into custody and transported to the Lafayette County Detention Center. Sanchez has been charged with robbery and is set to be arraigned later today, at which time his bond will be determined.

Chief Jeff McCutchen praised the teamwork displayed by the officers involved in the arrest, stating, “This was a great team effort from the officers who were on shift and those who were at training but left to help. It’s what makes the Oxford Police Department special.”

The Oxford Police Department continues to investigate the incident and urges anyone with additional information to come forward.
