A Mississippi man has been charged with murder after the body of an 18-year-old girl was found dead at a riverside park Saturday.

Dietrix Cunningham, 20, has been charged with the murder of Abria Harris,18.

Columbus Police officers responded to Moores Creek Road by the River Walk for a gunshot victim shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday.

Harris’s body was found near the River Walk. She suffered a single gunshot wound to her head, according to police.

Harris was pronounced dead on the scene by Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.

Merchant says there was an early evening 911 call reporting an accidental shooting that turned into a homicide investigation.

A man called and said a friend was playing with a gun and accidentally shot herself.

Cunningham is reportedly Harris’s ex-boyfriend. He is being held at the Lowndes County Detention Center.
