The Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite, the renowned marching band from Alcorn State University, has been selected to perform in the 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, representing Mississippi in the iconic event. This marks the band’s first appearance in the historic parade, which has signaled the start of the holiday season since 1924.
Chosen from over 100 applicants, the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite will be one of nine bands featured in the 99th edition of the parade. Known for their dynamic performances, the band impressed the Macy’s Parade Band Committee with their stage presence and musical excellence, earning them a spot in one of America’s most beloved holiday traditions.
“Macy’s is thrilled to invite the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite to join us for the 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” said Sara Flores, associate producer of the parade. “Their performance during the selection process truly wowed us, and we’re excited to showcase their talent on a national stage.”
Dr. Everson Martin, director of bands at Alcorn State, expressed his excitement, saying, “This is a major opportunity for our students, the university, and the state of Mississippi. We can’t wait for Thanksgiving Day 2025.”
To help fund their journey to New York, Macy’s presented the band with a $10,000 donation. The next 18 months will be spent in preparation, with rehearsals and fundraising events bringing the university and community together for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
For nearly a century, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been a cherished holiday event, featuring floats, balloons, and performances that entertain millions of viewers nationwide.
