According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the crash happened at 12:40 a.m. Saturday near Mile Marker 9 on I-20 westbound. The 2018 Volvo bus’s left front tire failed, causing the vehicle to veer off the interstate and roll over onto an embankment.

Six people died at the scene, and another died later at a Vicksburg hospital.

A total of 43 people, including 41 passengers and two drivers, were on board. Survivors were transported to hospitals in Vicksburg and Jackson for treatment.

First responders from the Vicksburg Police and Fire Departments, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Warren County Fire Service, and Mississippi Highway Patrol worked tirelessly to assist the injured and free those trapped in the wreckage.

In the aftermath, local officials and organizations, including the Baptist Association, provided aid to the stranded passengers, gathering food and clothing. The NTSB has deployed a 17-person team to Vicksburg to investigate the crash, with a preliminary report expected within 30 days.
