A Mississippi property owner made a horrifying discovery when a human body inside a burned-out car was found on his property.

The Brookhaven Daily Leader reports that the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded after receiving a call from the property owner who had made the startling discovery.

On Sunday afternoon, Sept. 1, Sheriff Ryan Everett said he received the report that a family member had discovered the body in the car on his property.

“I immediately notified our investigators and the MBI Agent that is assisting us with our missing persons case of the discovery and the location,” said Everett. “At the time of discovery, we were able to confirm that there was a deceased subject in the vehicle. We are hoping that DNA analysis will assist us in identification, very soon.”

Everett said details released will be limited until the remains are identified and the family is notified.
