Man rescued after being trapped under rail car after train derailment on Mississippi train tracks

A man trapped under a rail car after a train derailed in Vicksburg was rescued by emergency personnel Thursday.

WJTV in Jackson reports that the man was rescued just after 12:30 p.m. at the junction of Mulberry Street and Oak Street in Vicksburg.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps reported that firefighters responded to a distress call and arrived to find a 50-year-old man trapped under a rail cart. Firefighters immediately began efforts to extricate the man from the wreckage.

Once freed, the man was rushed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for urgent medical care. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed.
