The massive search for a missing 4-year-old Mississippi boy has ended in tragedy.

Kaleb Jamison was found dead nearly 12 hours after he went missing from his Canton apartment complex. The heartbreaking discovery was made in a nearby retention pond, leaving the entire community mourning.

Jamison, who was autistic, went missing around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

His father told police that they were together in the apartment when the child somehow slipped out unnoticed. A neighbor’s Ring camera captured the boy walking alone, wearing a light blue shirt and pull-ups.

Despite a massive search effort by law enforcement and volunteers, Jamison’s body was found in the pond near the complex after nearly 12 hours. Community members have since placed flowers and balloons near the pond to honor his memory.
