A Mississippi man is recovering after surviving a home explosion early Tuesday morning.
WTVA in Tupelo reports that the explosion occurred around 6:30 a.m. at the man’s residence on McCarley Road, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, who had been asleep at the time of the blast, managed to escape the fire that followed and drove his lawnmower to his brother’s house to seek help.
He was later airlifted to a hospital, where he is being treated for third-degree burns.
While the cause of the explosion is still under investigation by the fire marshal, officials suspect a space heater may have been involved. Neighbors reported feeling the explosion from miles away.
