A Mississippi woman has been charged with abusing a city’s E-911 service after she reportedly called in a false report accusing a police officer in a drive-by shooting.

On September 11, 2024, the Gulfport Police Department arrested 41-year-old Angela Maria Shavers, charging her with one count of Abuse of Emergency 911.

The arrest followed an investigation into a 911 call made on September 6, 2024, around 5:52 p.m. Shavers falsely reported a drive-by shooting, alleging that the suspect was a Gulfport police officer. During the call, she provided a fictitious name.

Authorities later identified Shavers as the caller and discovered she had been convicted earlier that same day of her first offense of Abuse of Emergency 911. Investigators believe the false report was an act of retaliation against the officer who had transported her to court on the day of her conviction.

Shavers was booked and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, where she is being held on a $10,000 bond.
