One person was killed and another seriously injured in a head-on collision on a rural Mississippi highway Wednesday.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol reports that Shenetra W. Johnson, 44, of Pattison was killed in the wreck that occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on MS-547 near Mount Pleasant Road in Claiborne County.

According to reports, Johnson was traveling northbound on MS-547 in a 2013 Infiniti Q70 sedan when her car collided head-on with a 2003 Nissan Frontier traveling southbound.

Yefri W. Castillo-Sierra, 39, of Metairie, Louisiana, drove the Nissan.

Johnson received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Castillo-Sierra was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson with serious injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
