Schools in the Pearl River Central and Picayune districts are ramping up security measures after social media threats targeting their middle and high schools surfaced on Snapchat. Both districts have confirmed that, following investigations in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, no credible threats have been identified.

The Picayune School District issued a statement reassuring parents that the reported threats against Picayune Junior High and Picayune Memorial High School are being thoroughly investigated. “We received information from students about a social media post on Snapchat concerning threats to Picayune Jr. High School and Picayune Memorial High School. Multiple state, federal, and local law enforcement agencies are involved in this investigation. No credible threat to the Picayune School District has been identified,” the district stated.

School officials expressed gratitude to students who reported the information and acknowledged that similar threats have been circulating nationwide. The district urged patience as law enforcement continues its efforts to ensure student safety.

In the Pearl River Central (PRC) School District, officials addressed similar concerns regarding threats to its middle and high schools. Superintendent John Shows confirmed that, while no credible threat has been identified, an increased law enforcement presence will remain on campus as a precaution. “We have had additional law enforcement on campus today, and more officers will be on campus tomorrow,” Shows said.

Both districts are encouraging continued vigilance and urging parents and students to report any suspicious activity as the investigation progresses.
