A 77-year-old Mississippi man was found dead in his home on Thursday night, the apparent victim of a homicide.

The Natchez Democrat newspaper reports that Pete Taylor, a resident of 409 Watts St., in Natchez, died from blunt force trauma to the head, according to Adams County Coroner James Lee. Taylor was pronounced dead at 10:41 p.m.

“This was an awful tragedy today,” Lee said. “I continue to be baffled by these continuous incidents that I call avoidable. My heart continues to go out to these families.”

Taylor’s body has been sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

The Natchez Police Department is currently investigating the case.
