A Mississippi man has been arrested after officials say he critically injured a man outside a Maine hotel.
Martavious Moore, 30, of Collins, Mississippi, was arrested in the shooting Tuesday night outside the Bangor Inn and Suites. The incident occurred just after 9 p.m. when police responded to reports of a shooting on Hogan Road. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to a local hospital by Bangor Fire and is currently in critical condition.
According to Bangor Police, the shooting stemmed from an altercation between Moore and the victim. Moore allegedly brandished a handgun and shot the victim during the confrontation.
Police located Moore in a room at the inn around 9:30 p.m. and attempted to contact him. However, Moore refused to cooperate. Due to the involvement of a firearm, the department’s Special Response Team and negotiators were called. After several hours of negotiation, Moore exited the room at around 4 a.m. Wednesday and was taken into custody without further incident.
Moore is being held at the Penobscot County Jail, facing charges of Elevated Aggravated Assault, Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon, and other related offenses. Police recovered a handgun, believed to be the weapon used, along with a rifle from Moore’s room.
