Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson shared updates on Tuesday regarding the upcoming 2024 Mississippi State Fair, set to take place from October 3-14 in Jackson. Gates will open daily at 11:00 a.m.

This year, fairgoers can purchase tickets online for the first time, either in advance or at the gate. The new system includes digital kiosks at the ticket booth, where tickets can be scanned directly from a smartphone or printed receipt. Visitors who buy tickets in advance from September 24 to October 2 can take advantage of a discounted price of $8. Regular gate admission is $10, and parking will be free. Children under 5 will be admitted free of charge.

Among the traditional attractions returning to the fair are the Farm Bureau Petting Zoo, Dixie National Rodeo, State Fair Marketplace Expo, 4-H and FFA livestock shows, Zerbini Family Circus, and the popular Biscuit Booth. New entertainment options will also be introduced for both children and adults.

In addition to the fun, enhanced security measures will be in place to ensure a safe environment for all attendees. Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell emphasized the priority of maintaining security at the fairgrounds, noting that law enforcement will be working to provide a welcoming and safe atmosphere.

Key security protocols include:

  • Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult (21 or older) after 9:00 p.m., and proof of age may be required.
  • All attendees will go through security checkpoints with metal detectors or magnetic wanding upon entering the Midway.
  • Bags will be searched, with a maximum size limit of 12″x12″x6″.
  • No outside food, beverages, animals (except service animals), fireworks, or laser pointers will be allowed.
  • The legal carry of firearms by adults is permitted on the fairgrounds.

Fairgrounds Chief of Security Steve Shows encouraged visitors to bring identification and adhere to these guidelines.
