Mississippi police officer extricated in wreck on interstate with truck

A Mississippi police officer had to be extricated from his vehicle after a severe crash on the interstate Wednesday.

The crash occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on Interstate 220 North near Interstate 55 in Ridgeland, north of Jackson.

The Ridgeland Police officer had to be extricated from their vehicle after a collision involving a pickup truck that hit the officer’s vehicle from behind.

The pickup overturned during the crash.

The officer and the pickup driver were transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson for treatment. The officer is expected to recover.

Officials report that the pickup truck driver did not have a valid driver’s license or insurance. The driver may also face a DUI charge.

The incident is currently under investigation.
