Two Mississippi high school students were injured after allegedly stealing a teacher’s vehicle and crashing the vehicle on the interstate.
The incident occurred around 11:15 a.m. near Watkins Drive. According to Jackson police, the Jim Hill High School students stole a teacher’s keys and drove off with the vehicle. During the crash, one of the students was ejected from the car.
Both were taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) with non-life-threatening injuries.
Jackson Public School District (JPS) confirmed the incident, stating that one student took the vehicle without authorization after receiving permission to retrieve an item from it.
No charges have been filed yet, but the investigation is ongoing. JPS expressed concern over the incident and is cooperating with local law enforcement to determine if criminal charges will be brought against the students involved.
“Our thoughts are with the individuals involved and their families during this difficult time,” said Sherwin Johnson, Executive Director of Public Engagement at JPS.
